Septic Tank Pumping

Septic Tank Pumping, Cleaning & Repair

Your septic tank needs to be pumped or cleaned at some regular frequency. This frequency is directly dependent upon how many people live in the home. In general, a septic tank pump out should occur once every 3 to 5 years. The more people living in a home, the more frequent the pump out needs to be.

Pumping your septic tank is necessary to extend the life of the septic system, specifically, the drainfield. Pumping the septic tank removes solids. As solids accumulate, the tank volume decreases. This decrease in volume causes the wastewater strength to increase (less space for dilution with water) which in turn creates a situation in the drainfield where the bacteria in the soil have to work even harder to break down the waste. This causes a biomat formation and drainfield failure.

Do septic system additives work? Don’t waste your money! Pumping the septic tank once every 3 to 5 years does more for the system and costs less than using additives every month. If you use septic additives, you are literally dumping money down the toilet.
